About Me
Hi, I’m Pooja — welcome to my portfolio of handmade flowers.
My love for this art began when my dearest friend Sarah was getting married and I offered to design her wedding cake. Like many brides, I imagined tiers adorned with cascades of flowers. But Sarah, a trained floral designer, was firm: “No flowers!” She didn’t want pesticides, bugs, or toxic blooms like lilies or baby’s breath near her cake.
I was disappointed, yet I couldn’t shake the vision of those floral cakes. Then I stumbled upon a phrase that felt like magic: sugar flowers. Flowers crafted by hand, safe for cakes, and breathtakingly lifelike. That was the beginning of my journey — one I’ve never left.
I’m not a baker (truth be told, I’m not much of a cook), but I fell in love with the patience and artistry it takes to sculpt a flower, petal by petal. To this day, I chase nuance: a softer curve, a truer shade, a more delicate balance. My “flower library” is filled with photographs I’ve taken of blooms that catch my eye, each one a spark for my next creation.
In 2021, I transitioned from sugar to cold porcelain (air-dry polymer clay) - a medium that allows me to preserve that same beauty with greater durability and detail. Today, I teach this craft in art and continuing education programs and through private masterclasses, offering a more artful, intimate experience for anyone drawn to the joy of handmade flowers. I design many of my own tools, and I experiment constantly, from silicone veiners and molds to whimsical side projects. Curiosity is my constant companion.
My creative roots run deep: I studied Fashion Design at Parsons School of Design in Manhattan and spent nearly two decades leading my family’s international clothing business before it retired. Since then, I’ve founded my own marketing company in a niche industry that is another hobby of mine. I combined marketing, design, and artistry into a life shaped by both business and beauty.
Above all, I create and teach to share this joy. Whether you join me for a class or simply browse these pages, I hope you feel invited to pause, indulge, and explore something artful.
The creative side of life has always been my focus. I paint, I make flowers, I work for love.
Thanks for stopping by.
Pooja
