My Go-To shades in PanPastel

Shading/Dusting the flowers & leaves brings them to life. Click the blue links to go to the shade.

I use PanPastels to color/dust my flowers.

PanPastels is the brand name for a company owned by Golden paints that makes art pastels in a pressed powder compact form. In May 2025 PanPastel introduced 53 new shades! Blick stores carry PanPastels, but I find their online prices better than in-store. Online colors look a lot different than the real product BTW.

My top must-haves

Colorless Blender

Titanium White

Pinks:

Magenta

Magenta Shade

Crimson Medium

Purples:

Violet Light

Violet Shade

Yellows:

Yellow Ochre (formerly yellow ochre)

Yellow Ochre Shade (formerly yellow ochre shade)

Greens:

Chromium Oxide Green Shade

Bright Yellow Green Shade

Colorless Blender is great to mix 2 or more shades on a petal - seamless ombre/gradient from one color to the other. It is not a color, and it is not white, it is a silky medium to blend 2 or more colors.

Good link about how to mix PanPastel colors.

In class I use my stash of edible dust colors however if you are going to make flowers at home you will find the quality and deep pigments of the PanPastel brand unsurpassed.
